Chateau Morrisette Presents The Black Dog Music and BBQ Festival Featuring Donna The Buffalo

Festival Music Features Donna the Buffalo and Big Daddy Love

The Black Dog Music and BBQ Festival is headlined by internationally-acclaimed band Donna the Buffalo, a regional favorite. Originally from upstate New York, Donna the Buffalo is on tour promoting their new album released on the Sugar Hill label called “Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday.” Performing together since 1989, the band has built a following proudly calling itself “The Herd,” along with a well-deserved reputation for crafting social narratives and slipstream grooves without equal. Donna the Buffalo takes the stage around 2:00 PM.

Opening the show is another regional favorite, Big Daddy Love. Big Daddy Love’s Appalachian Rock — a unique and natural blend of rock, roots and grass — has landed this Western NC quintet on the radars of music lovers all over North America and beyond. Their new CD and DVD “Live at Ziggy’s” captures them with the lights on and the volume up at a hometown show at the venerable North Carolina music hall. Opening the festival at 11:00 AM, Big Daddy Love stretches the music out with top notch pickin’ and grinnin’ and delivers a stompin’ good time rich with authentic Carolina soul.

Our KCBS Sanctioned BBQ Festival

Our BBQ Festival features 13 teams from Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina competing for over $4,500 in cash awards in up to four different categories: Ribs, Brisket, Chicken, and Pork. Each team has specific criteria to meet including inspections and deadlines, and there will be 16 KCBS trained and certified judges on hand to sample and critique the competitive entries. Awards will be announced at 3:45 PM.

In addition to the cash awards, most teams will be competing for the “People’s Choice” award. Up to 100 people attending the festival can purchase a voting token for $5 upon arrival. They will be given the opportunity to sample all the entries and vote for their favorite barbecue entry. 100% of the proceeds from the People’s Choice goes to our local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America. Local Boy Scouts will be camping on the festival grounds and helping to provide security for the event.

Festival Details

The festival runs from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the gate. Tickets may be purchased online at www.thedogs.com or by phone at (540) 593-2865.

Tickets include admission, wine tastings from five different wineries, a souvenir wine glass and a tour of the winery. Food venders offering a variety of choices will be on hand as well as regional artists and crafts people. Wine and beer are available for purchase. The event is pet friendly provided pets are well behaved and remain on a leash.

The Festival takes place at the Nancy Morrisette Field, adjacent to the winery, along Black Ridge Road in Floyd County, Virginia. The field is located ¼ of a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, MP 171.5. Parking is onsite, and Chateau Morrisette offers free shuttles to the winery and restaurant.
