By: Sonia Jackson Myles "This is the highest honor the Senate of the General Assembly of Ohio gives with the exception of honors given to military persons who have passed away,” said Senator Kearney. 50 teenaged girls participated in The Sister Accord Tea Party, which was hosted and sponsored by Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Hotel in an effort to support positive community engagement. Cincinnati Councilmember Yvette Simpson also marked the occasion by declaring it Sister Accord Day in the city. "Sonia has been a tireless advocate for women's rights with a special focus on building confidence and communication skills in young women," said Michel A. Sheer, CHA, Managing Director, Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. "We, at the hotel, are pleased to support Sonia in her work, and believe that this work can help lead to a better future for us all." "The theme of the event was A Time To Feel Special. Those who participated will have an opportunity to participate in a follow-up session this fall to further assist them in their development as successful global leaders," said Jackson Myles. “There were many things that these young ladies could have been doing on a Saturday afternoon, but instead they chose to make an investment in themselves,” This High Tea was our first of ten nationwide. Jackson Myles hopes the other sessions will have the same degree of success. "This type of exposure can only strengthen the skills of each teen girl. I am confident that this experience will help them make great choices for their journey. Every aspect of the day was planned in detail and each attendee received numerous special gifts. "We want these young ladies to know that there are people, outside of their families, who care deeply about them and their success,” said Jackson Myles. “Our Sister Accord mentors were fantastic and took special care in working with the young ladies on the exercises we conducted." Award winning music artist from EnVogue and Sister Accord Foundation Trustee, Terry Ellis, sent a beautiful video greeting to the girls and created a Sister Accord journal for one lucky winner. The day closed with a beautiful gift giving ceremony when mentors presented each girl with a special pearl bracelet. "Pearls are created as a result of an irritant in an oyster,” said Jackson Myles. “You too will have irritants in your life. We all have irritants, but you must stay steadfast in knowing that perseverance will be the key to walking in your destiny. Don’t be discouraged. Learn the lessons and move forward." Sonia Jackson Myles, President & CEO of The Sister Accord, LLC, is a highly sought after coach, consultant, author, motivational speaker and workshop facilitator who specializes in purpose-centered personal and professional coaching.
