- Sep. 6, 2013 - DETROIT --
On Monday, September 9, 2013, Sony Pictures Animation will deliver approximately 40,000 pounds of fresh produce in a Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 theme-decorated, 53-foot semi-trailer truck. 50 children volunteers along with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 costume characters Sam Sparks and Barry will help unload and sort fresh produce, including celery, carrots, lettuce, strawberries and watermelon. For their volunteerism, children will have the opportunity to participate in activities, like coloring and face painting stations while 96.3 WDVD’s radio DJ booth provides musical entertainment.
September is Hunger Action Month, a month dedicated to raise public awareness of the more than 50 million people who struggle with hunger in the United States. During this month, individuals are urged to take action in their communities and help fight hunger. For Hunger Action Month, Sony Pictures Animation is donating more than 200,000 pounds of food to Feeding America’s nationwide network of food banks.
To coincide with the opening month of their new movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Sony Pictures is donating 40,000 pounds of fresh produce to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Gleaners has been “feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities”
for more than 36 years. For every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 93 cents for food and food programs.
