Halifax Social Media Agency Expands to Meet Demand

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia - Sept. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Twirp Communications, a Halifax-based social media agency, is growing to keep up with demand for social media services for small businesses in the area.

Amanda Gore joins Head Twirp, Anita Hovey as Twirp Communications’ first full-time employee. Hired through the WorkSmarts subsidy program at Saint Mary’s University Business Development Centre, Amanda will provide creativity, marketing and technical support for over 15 social media presences.

“I remember what it was like trying to find a job in communications when I graduated,” says Hovey. “We have a disproportionate number of PR grads here and since I was hiring, I wanted to give someone a leg up with a great first-job experience. The SMU WorkSmarts program came along at just the right time.”

Amanda comes to Twirp Communications with a Bachelor of Arts in English from SMU and a diploma in Public Relations from NSCC, and past experience running the Facebook page for the Museum of Natural History’s Gus the Turtle Facebook Page. She is no stranger to the written word, online or otherwise, making her a the perfect candidate to mentor in community management.

“Social media is really about conversations, not a technology,” says Gore. “Anybody can learn to use a platform like Facebook or Twitter, but being able to engage with clients and customers is an art. Writing and communications backgrounds are a natural fit for social media managers.”

As social media continues to grow in Atlantic Canada, Twirp Communications is rising to the challenge of keeping up. This newest expansion means the social media company is poised to pursue larger and more diverse clients.

“We are already working with businesses spanning from Newfoundland to Ontario,” says Hovey. “We’re working in real estate, telecommunications, charity and retail. We are ready for our next challenge.”
