MIAMI LAKES, Fla. - Sept. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- As part of the Feeding America network consisting of 202 food banks, Feeding South Florida (FSF) is the largest of 14 Feeding America food banks in the state of Florida. Feeding South Florida’s mission is to end hunger in South Florida by providing immediate access to nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transforming lives through innovative programming and education.


SERVICE AREA CONSISTS OF:

o   Four Counties: Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe


WHO IS HELPED THROUGH FEEDING SOUTH FLORIDA?
Feeding South Florida provided over 30 million pounds of food and grocery products last year through their local network of 600 other nonprofits throughout Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties. 15.2 million pounds of food and grocery products (out of the 30 million) went directly to Miami-Dade County.

THE FOOD BENEFITS:

o   Working Poor
o   People Who Are Physically or Mentally Challenged
o   Single Mothers and Fathers
o   Homeless Individuals and Families
o   Senior Citizens
o   Assisted Living Facilities


FEEDING SOUTH FLORIDA FACTS:
o   949,910 food insecure individuals throughout the quad-county service area (16% of the entire population of the four counties combined)
o   296,600 of those who are food insecure are children
o   Florida is ranked the 5th state in the United States for food insecurity
o   For every dollar donated, Feeding South Florida can provide 6 meals to those in need. Out of every dollar donated, .98 cents goes directly towards putting food on the table for individuals and families.

Your generosity is vital to the success and future of our food bank,
and we are grateful for each gift. In addition to providing 30 million pounds of food
to the community last year, Feeding South Florida saved local non-profits
over $50 million dollars that can then be used to expand or enhance
current programs or to create new programs in our community.
We cannot continue to feed the hungry without individuals like you!

The Top needed items include: Peanut Butter, Cereal, Canned Meat/Tuna, Rice, Beans, Pasta, Pop Top Food Items, Soup, Ready to eat meals (non refrigerated), and Baby Food.
