“Bargain hunters and pickers who work during the shop’s weekday hours can now head out to Fort Gordon on First Saturday to take advantage of the bargains at the Thrift Shop while also hitting the Fall Flea Market,” said Stephanie Lainez, manager of the Thrift Shop. “With fresh donated and consigned items coming in every week, we have something for everyone. If you don’t find what you’re looking for at the Fall Flea Market on Barton Field, you can probably find it at the Thrift Shop.”
The Thrift Shop, a valuable resource for the Fort Gordon community as well as the greater Augusta area, sells furniture, clothing, toys, crafts and Fort Gordon-themed items and offers them all tax-free.
Operated by the Fort Gordon Spouses’ & Civilians’ Club, the shop is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the First Saturday of each month (October through May) from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Donations are accepted during business hours as well as at the donation bin located next to the shop. DOD card holders may consign items every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and First Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Profits from the Thrift Shop go toward annual scholarships and grants for community organizations and students. In 2013, the Thrift Shop’s success helped the club award $21,000 in scholarships and grants.
“The volunteers and paid staff of the Thrift Shop work so hard to make this a fun and worthwhile place to shop,” said Lainez. “Through the generosity of our hard workers and patrons, the Thrift Shop makes a difference in the Fort Gordon and Augusta community.” The Thrift Shop is located in Building 39102 behind the Exchange in the Brems Barracks near Avenue of the States and 40th Street.
The Fort Gordon Spouses’ & Civilians’ Club is an active part of the Fort Gordon community that leads service projects, operates the Thrift Shop and provides volunteer opportunities, special events and activities.
A private nonprofit organization, the club is not affiliated with Fort Gordon or the U.S. Army. Membership in the club is open to anyone affiliated with Fort Gordon. For more information, please visit www.fgscc.com, www.facebook.com/
