Valpo Half Marathon to Benefit United Way Power of Youth Council

United Way of Porter County (UWPC) is hosting its 4th annual Valparaiso Half Marathon in November, with all race proceeds going to UWPC’s Power of Youth Council.

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Sept. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- VALPARAISO, Ind. - United Way of Porter County (UWPC) is hosting its 4th annual Valparaiso Half Marathon in November, with all race proceeds going to UWPC’s Power of Youth Council. The student-led program holds fundraisers that benefit community programs that are focused on youth self-esteem.

Over 1,000 race participants and 100 volunteers from Valparaiso, Northwest Indiana and neighboring states are expected to attend this year’s race. The race begins at 8:30 AM on Nov. 10 at the UWPC office. Runners will receive a long sleeve technical running shirt and a finisher’s medal. All participants are invited to attend the tented post-race festival with music and food. The race also features a flat, fast course, computerized chip timing, split times at every mile and water stations.

Runners can register for the half marathon online through 4:00 PM on Nov. 9. Registration costs $40 through Aug. 31, $45 from Sept. 1 through Oct.1, $50 from Oct. 2 through Nov. 9 and $55 on the day of the race.

The Power of Youth Council, a United Way initiative, is comprised of Porter County high school students who encourage youth to become leaders, make an impact and recognize the importance of youth involvement in the community.

The student-led program holds fundraisers that benefit United Way-supported youth self-esteem programs throughout Porter County. It offers students the opportunity to be advocates on issues that affect teens, participate in community service projects, build leadership skills and network with other high school students in the community.
