LOS ANGELES - July 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Space Environment Technologies provides advanced space weather products and services. Their core expertise is the accurate specification of solar spectral irradiance variations. They link that information with empirical, physics-based, and hybrid environmental, operational, and design models that require a solar energy input. They have a wealth of experience in the process of transitioning research models into operational systems.

The interview with Space Environment Technologies is part of the Moving America Forward series, which broadcasts nationally and spotlights individuals and organizations which are “Moving America Forward by taking us to new roads and new opportunities,” Shatner said. Along with their partners, Space Environment Technologiesactively conducts research and develops applications to meet space environmental requirements by combining solar irradiances with research and operational models at a systems level. The result is improved space weather forecast products for the design, development, and operation of space and ground technological systems.

Space Environment Technologies, located in Pacific Palisades, California, was founded in August 2001 by W. Kent Tobiska. The company evolved from a small Northrop Grumman division that was originally part of Federal Data Corporation (FDC).

In May 2000, following the signing of the NOAA/SEC-FDC Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), FDC created its SpaceWx division having the goal of developing space weather products. Within six months, FDC was purchased by Logicon, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Northrop Grumman. In 2001, as Logicon divested itself of space weather activities, Dr. Tobiska formed SET as a sole proprietorship. By October, Dr. Tobiska obtained all worldwide rights from Northrop Grumman to research, software, and hardware associated with the SpaceWx division. He immediately licensed the use of these assets to Space Environment Technologies.
