Unfaithful Mind - When Schizophrenia In a Spouse Impacts a Family, New Book Describes the Struggles

In an advanced review of Unfaithful Mind, one reviewer compared this book to A Beautiful Mind and said the book "is heartbreaking, beautiful, and everything all at once. I wish the best for her family and would really love to read more from her about her husband's progress....Mrs. Gibson is a very strong lady and I support her decision to publish this 100%. More people need to know that this happens to normal people every day! I definitely recommend this book."

VICTORIA, British Columbia - Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Marion Gibson and her husband, John, were leading an idyllic life in Victoria, BC, Canada. High school sweethearts, he was an intenationally known scientist who, after stints in Vienna and Australia, had settled into a post in Victoria with his wife and their three children. Marion was working for and was the BC representative for the family business based in Ontario when tragedy struck while she was on a business trip to Toronto.

As Marion asked “What had happened to our beautiful happy life? Could it really be over for us? I just wasn’t sure if our love was strong enough to keep us together. I probably believed it wasn’t.”

Despite the eventual and probable diagnosis of late-onset schizophrenia, John and Marion struggled to hold their family together and to deal with an illness that usually strikes much earlier in life. This is their story of what happens when the mind betrays you.

In addition to the review on Librarything.com, two other reviews on that site were also highly positive. One said "I couldn't put it down from the very first page. Scary in the most personal of ways. Sad, terrifying and inspiring. Most certainly worth a read" while the other said "informative, fascinating and heart-wrenching".

While the book has only been out for a very short time, Ms Gibson and her story are the subject of a feature article in The Georgia Straight in Vancouver entitled Unfaithul Mind chronicles a couple's success in battling schizophrenia. She has also appeared on CBC radio network shows in Vancouver and Victoria as well as the Ian Jessop show in Victoria. Links to these shows and details of the book can be found at http://bridgeross.com/unfaithful.html

On Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 7:00 PM, Ms Gibson will be speaking at Saturday Live! This is another in Movie Monday’s occasional series that spotlights writers and performers with lived experience of mental illness and recovery.  Using the Eric Martin Pavilion Theatre, 1900 Block Fort Street, Movie Monday is a long-running weekly film and discussion series in Victoria’s former psychiatric hospital.
