Eating Healthy in Philadelphia Has Never Been Easier

Viocare, Inc. has developed a mobile app and joined forces with Center City area restaurants to help make Philadelphia a healthier community, one meal at a time.  Viocare’s app gives more than numbers - it compares these facts to your nutritional goals and provides tips to guide you to the best choices at each participating restaurant.  What makes it even more powerful is that all the nutrition data has been analyzed and verified by a Registered Dietitian.

Rick Weiss, founder of Viocare, Inc. explained that it’s not enough to tell people what’s healthy; you need to show them why it matters to their personal health.  “We’ve learned that when you personalize the impact of food choices, and provide a platform to manage them, people will actually make decisions to improve their health”, Weiss says.  Adina Marcus, who participated in a test run in Princeton, agrees.  “A restaurant menu usually offers a huge number of decisions”, she explained.  “Looking at all those choices, I might waiver and pick something that’s bad for me.  I loved [the app]!  The phone was amazing and took all of the guesswork out of deciding what to eat.”

Philadelphia restaurants are excited about this app and the opportunity to help their patrons to be healthier.  Michele Rowan, owner of Pizza Rustica, says, “We think this is a great opportunity to show our customers they can still eat out and have healthy choices.”

Viocare is looking for volunteers to take part in a pilot study to put its smartphone app to the test while eating at restaurants in Center City Philadelphia and surrounding neighborhoods.  Qualified participants could earn up to $100 for participating in this pilot study which will take place in early Fall.
