Follow on Google News | Mrs. P.com Celebrates 5th Anniversary of “Be a Famous Writer” National Writing Contest for KidsBy: PR with Panache! The contest is free to enter and open to all K-4 classrooms in the United States with entries (http://www.mrsp.com) Mrs. P, is a character played by actress Kathy Kinney, best known for her role as Mimi, on the Drew Carey Show. However, her new role as Mrs. P couldn't be more different. With a voice Kinney likes to call "west of Ireland," combined with her red wig and polka dotted dress, her goal is to remind kids of their favorite, eccentric Aunt. Mrs. P invites K-4 classrooms nationwide to write a story about "Magic”, the theme of this year’s contest, containing no less than 250 words and not to exceed 1,000. It may be fiction or non-fiction and some of the things considered in selections are: Originality, creativity, compelling narrative, humor, sense of adventure and the development of a theme or point of view. One story per classroom will be accepted and each entry can either be a collaborative story, or classrooms can vote on which child's story to enter. “This year, during a roundup of stories on past winners, we learned that, of the past winners, many say that the Mrs. P writing contest was the first writing contest most students ever entered,” stated Kinney. “Our contest gave them the encouragement and confidence to continue exploring their passion for writing. Several students have gone on to win additional, big name writing awards and contest.” In addition to the Mrs. P website, we have been fortunate to partner with companies that promote reading, writing and overall literacy.
