Mabanta Chosen To Lead North Texas Cancer Center At Wise County

DECATUR, Texas - Sept. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Decatur, Texas, USA – Sheilane Rodrigo Mabanta, M.D., has been named medical director of THE North Texas Cancer Center at Wise County, leading efforts to provide the community with highly personalized cancer care in a setting that is close to home.  Dr. Mabanta is an experience radiation oncologist who treats all kinds of cancers and specializes in her caring, compassionate approach in working with her patients.

Echt, M.D., radiation oncologist and founder of Choice Cancer Care, which owns the North Texas Cancer Center at Wise County, “but what stands out about her most is her ability to connect with patients on a personal level and help them move forward in a way that is best for them and their family.

Cancer struck a personal chord with Dr. Mabanta from an early age, as her own father battled lymphoma when she was a teenager, and died from the disease when she was 19 years old. Dr. Mabanta graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and earned her doctorate in medicine from Tulane University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in radiation oncology at the Shands Cancer Center in Gainesville, FL, and continued to practice in the Sunshine State, treating cancers of all types.  She has authored many papers and lectured on head and neck cancers, as well as researched methods of stereotactic radiosurgery. Dr. Mabanta is certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board f Radiology and is a member of the American College of Radiology and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.

Dr. Mabanta looks forward to being a contributing member of the close-knit community in Decatur, and hopes that people look to her for advice.

“I am most looking forward to getting to know my patients and building trust with them,” she said. “I want them to have an understanding of what is going on and what their options are. There are so many ways to treat cancer now that will prevent its reoccurrence and give people longevity and a good quality of life. I want them to know all of that. I approach caring for patients as if they were all my own family members.”

Dr. Mabanta has been married to her husband, John, a physical therapist, for 17 years and they have two daughters: Isabel, 11, and Ava, 9, who are both very involved in competitive gymnastics.
