AMARILLO, Texas - Sept. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Amarillo, TX, August 29, 2013 More than 1500 walkers representing local businesses, families, schools, and other organizations are expected to participate in the JDRF Panhandle Branch’s annual Walk to Cure Diabetes, on Saturday, September 7th, at John Stiff Park. The chapter has set a fundraising goal of more than $200,000 which will help fund research toward progressively removing the impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D) until it is no longer a threat to people with the disease and their families.

“We are inspired by all those living with type 1 diabetes, and we’re proud to be among this community of steadfast supporters as JDRF’s partner for this event,” say Ron and Cheri Boyd, Corporate Co-chairs. “Together, we are helping to advance needed research that will make a difference in the lives of millions of people affected by this disease.”

The Walk is expected to draw an enthusiastic crowd of all ages, driven to support a great cause while enjoying an event that includes the Duncan & Boyd Diamond Dig, music by Vic Fontana & the Automatics, Clifford the Big Red Dog, a climbing wall, bouncers, and family fun. On-site registration begins at 7:00 am for the 5K run, and 8:00 am for the Walk. The entire Walk will be approximately 3 miles long.

“Thanks to the incredible supporters of the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, the community of Amarillo and supporters like Ron and Cheri Boyd, JDRF is raising important funds for research toward reducing and eventually eliminating the burden of type 1 diabetes, a disease that affects as many as three million Americans and their families,” said Jennifer Weinheimer, Panhandle Branch Board of Directors President.  “We are grateful to all who are donating their time, resources, and hearts to this event, and we look forward to celebrating the power of community at this year’s Walk.”

More than 200 Walks are held every year in the United States, and dozens more take place internationally. More than 900,000 people participate each year. Since 1992, the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes has raised more than $1 billion for research toward progressively removing the burden of T1D.
