Evan Guthrie Law Firm Teaches Estate Planning Lesson At Greater Goodwill AME Church In Mt. Pleasant

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Sept. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina taught a class on the subjects of estate planning and probate on Tuesday March 26^th 2013 at Greater Goodwill AME Church in Mount Pleasant, SC. The class covered the basics and fundamentals of planning an estate and the ins and outs of probate court. Mr. Guthrie spoke to a group from the church before and after a lunch that was scheduled. Attorney Guthrie spoke on topics ranging from what an estate is, different kinds of assets that comprise an estate, how long the probate process usually takes, what a personal representative does, how assets are distributed without a will, the steps of probating an estate, the basics of a last will and testament, what a living trust is, the advantages and disadvantages of having a trust in place, how to plan for incapacity, what living probate is, how a durable power of attorney operates, what advance directives are, the differences between a living will and a healthcare power of attorney is, common mistakes in planning an estate and where some people go wrong, what important papers and documents to have together when making a plan, and a list of everything that needs to be put together.

This was the third time that Attorney Evan Guthrie visited Greater Goodwill AME Church, but the first time he spoke to members of the congregation. Mr., Guthrie previously appeared at the Church as part of a Wills Clinic for the Center For Heirs Property Preservation that provided wills to members of the congregation and delivering air condition to members as part of an event for the Lowcountry Senior Network and Operation Home. Attorney Guthrie enjoyed being able to return to the church to speak about such an important topic that affects so many and has a long lasting impact on families. Mr. Guthrie looks forward to being able to return to the church again in the future to help some more.
