Sept. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- MaryMargaret O'Neill, the fourteeen-year-old founder of the non-profit Kids Are Heroes®, will host her organization's sixth annual Kids Are Heroes Day event from 10:00AM to 4:00PM at the center court of the Francis Scott Key mall on Saturday, September 14 in Frederick, Maryland. This year MaryMargaret has a record number of countries represented at her summit. Heroes from the USA, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago and the United Arab Emirates have all registered to attend. They will showcase their charities, deliver speeches, and network with each other during a day that will see many other family friendly activities. This year's theme is "One World, One Community" and the kids will showcase their efforts to underscore that concept.

This is a public event. Rachel Zevita, from seasons 6 and 10 of American Idol, will be on hand as the headliner. She will perform at 1:00PM and also be on hand for meet-n-greets with the public and to sign autographs.

Kids Are Heroes was founded by MaryMargaret in 2008 when she was just nine years old. It is a movement that makes it normal for kids to volunteer. By spotlighting so many stories of children doing charitable acts (they feature 393 heroes from 17 countries on their website) kids start to realize that they too can have an impact. Stories include children drilling water wells in third-world countries, building homes in Haiti, and filling up their local food banks. When other kids read the stories on the website, they pick and choose items from the different narratives to shape their own destiny. Once they have completed their project they themselves become showcased to influence yet another group of children.

"Every year brings us such a magical event", said Gabe O'Neill, MaryMargaret's proud dad and president of the organization. "I just wish everyone could witness it. To see such passion and innocence from all these kids is amazing. No one told them that what they are doing simply can't be done." Gabe continued, "It's not just about doing great things for others. These children are accumulating skills that are lacking in some adults. They are one by one becoming compassionate leaders."

Said one hero mom about last year's event: "We would drive hundreds and hundreds of miles (and through storms and states of emergencies) to be a part of your event again. It was INCREDIBLE and we are so impressed at how wonderful the event had turned out. My girls, Julia and Emma Mogus, have bonded with some incredible heroes in your country and ours, including your beautiful and heart warming daughter, MaryMargaret! The entire day and evening was very well organized and we feel privileged to have been a part of this incredible and historical event. We walked away better citizens and with a greater awareness of some of the issues facing our children and communities, both locally and internationally. You have done an exceptional job at helping to bring to light incredible kids who have done extraordinary things."
