The author, Reinier Krol, was inspired to write Firenight after many years of counselling young people through severe emotional challenges. “Young people, whatever the challenge they face – be it family breakups, loss of a loved-on, bullying, or simply trying to find their identity in this world – are haphazardly throwing themselves in front of trains, off cliffs, or guzzling pills. One in four young people suffer some form of depression and in most modern countries, suicide is now the leading cause of death in people under the age of twenty-five. We need to do something about this!”
Reinier Krol hopes to use the release of Firenight to proliferate a much needed discussion about the growing incidence of severe depression, self-harm and suicide experienced by young people today.
Reinier Krol is an Australian-based writer/filmmaker. Firenight is his second novel.
