(SIA) Builds Its Four Millionth Vehicle (Lafayette, IN) A blue 2014 Subaru Outback rolled off SIA’s production line and out of the factory doors, stopping amidst a sea of cheering SIA Associates in a ceremony today to celebrate the four millionth vehicle produced at the Lafayette, Indiana plant. SIA Associates stopped to gather and celebrate as the milestone vehicle emerged from the plant. SIA’s officers were on hand to congratulate and thank the Associates. “SIA has been recognized as the industry leader in quality, safety and environmental stewardship,” “This is truly a milestone that acknowledges the dedication, teamwork and commitment to kaizen of every SIA Associate,” remarked SIA Executive Vice President, Tom Easterday. Since the first vehicle, a Subaru Legacy, rolled off the production line on September 11, 1989, SIA Associates have built the Subaru Legacy, Outback, Tribeca and Baja as well as the Isuzu P’UP, Rodeo, Amigo and Axiom, and the Honda Passport. In 2007, SIA also began producing the Toyota Camry under contract with Toyota. SIA has exported vehicles to over 50 different countries. The production of four million vehicles also creates a positive ripple effect on SIA’s suppliers as well as the local community. Over the years, SIA has utilized primarily suppliers located in Indiana and the surrounding states, helping support the local and state economy. SIA and SIA Associates have also contributed countless volunteer hours and dollars to local and state non-profit organizations through charitable gifts, the SIA Foundation, Matching Gifts and SIA’s Corporate Volunteer Program.
