The ARK of St. Sabina was created by Rev. Michael Pfleger in 1992 & named ‘The ARK” to symbolize it being safe haven for youth to escape the storms of the world and prepare for a better life. The 20th Anniversary will be celebrated September 19.

The ARK of St. Sabina Celebrates 20 years of Success on Sept. 19

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS  – Under the leadership of Rev. Michael L. Pfleger, The ARK of St. Sabina will celebrate 20 years of success. The 20th Anniversary Celebration, chaired by the award winning Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mary Mitchell, will honor several distinguished citizens including: The Honorable Jacqueline Collins (Senator, 16th Legislative District), Rev. Yehiel Curry (Pastor, Shekinah Chapel Lutheran Church),Monica Haslip (Executive Director, Little Black Pearl Workshop), Dr. Dominica McBride (Founder & CEO, Become, Inc.) and David Whittaker (Executive Director, Chicago Area Project).  This momentous event, featuring a variety of surprise performances, in addition to music by String Fusion and Saxophonist Traysee, will begin with a VIP reception at 6pm and formal celebration at 7pm on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Salvage One, 1840 W. Hubbard St. in Chicago.

Leading the list of sponsors are: Sodexo, Marquette Bank, A & S Beverages, Consumer Advocate Law Firm-Attorney Ernest Fenton, Republic Bank, Thrift Medical Products and Custome Apparel.  There will also be a silent auction which includes:  tickets to the Steppenwolf Theater, An American Girl Doll and several athletic packages.

The ARK of St. Sabina was created in 1992, and was named ‘The ARK” to symbolize Rev. Michael L. Pfleger’s intent for it to be a safe haven for youth to escape from the storms of the world and prepare for a better life. The primary focus of the ARK is to nurture and develop the gifts, skills, and spirit of community youth by providing a safe supportive environment in which youth can prosper and excel.

The ARK implements a multifaceted approach to impact youth in the community, as well as members of their families. From education to employment, the ARK offers a vast array of opportunities and programs for youth and young adults ages 6 – 24. Daily, The Ark services between 70-150 youth in the surrounding West Englewood, Auburn-Gresham and Englewood communities at no cost to them and their families.
