OKLAHOMA CITY - Aug. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- As schools in in Oklahoma City and surrounding cities and towns open to students, they are finding  that some students are bringing with them those unwanted friends: head lice.. LiceDoctors Head Lice Removal Service advises parents to be on the look out for head lice. The months of August through October are peak months for the incidence of head lice.

According to Karen Sokoloff, owner of  LiceDoctors, each year with the end of camp and the beginning of school, there are significant outbreaks of head lice. "This year we are noticing a jump in the incidence of head lice among school age children in Oklahoma City and nearby areas such as Bethel Acres, , Chandler, Del City, Noble, Norman, Tecumseh, Tuttle, Valley Brook, Woodlawn Park, Yukon and others reports Ms. Sokoloff, who has been treating families with head lice for several years.

Ms. Sokoloff attributes the increase largely to a growing resistance to the chemical treatments. "We receive serveral calls a day for our in-home lice treatment service to eliminate nits and live bugs from children who have been treated unsuccessfully with the chemical shampoos. Often the parents think that their children are then lice and nit-free, but all it takes is 2 nits left in the hair to keep the case active." In addition, school nurses check students' heads for head lice when they return to school, often detecting cases that have been festering over the summer. Not everyone has symptons with head lice; some children have it and do not itch at all.

The best way to screen your child for head lice is to take him or her outside in the bright light. While lice scoot from the light and are difficult to find, the nits (eggs) attach to the hair shaft and have a translucent shell which reflects light in the sun.
