LOS ANGELES - Aug. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- While most affected by Hurricane Katrina will use August 29th to reflect on how their lives have been affected by the powerful and historical storm 8 years later, New Orleans native Actress Ciera Payton will use the day to do so as well. The New Orleans native will announce the acceptance of her very own one-woman show, "Michael's Daughter", into the 2013 United Solo Theatre Festival in NYC, unveiling the IndieGoGo campaign requesting the financial support needed.

Michael’s Daughter

Created and performed by Actress Ciera Payton, "Michael's Daugter" illustrates Ciera's journey of dealing with letters from her incarcerated father and allows the audience in as she undergoes indepth soul searching and a beginning to address her unconventional upbringing and troubled past.  Her New Orleans roots are tested.  Ciera guides the audience on a journey from a little girl in New Orleans' 3rd Ward to a woman in Los Angeles fighting to forgive her family.

Throughout the play, Ciera artfully portrays her stuttering, city-slick Father, southern belle Mother, and her endearingly crass Aunt Patty. She does so in a manner, completely filled with humor, compassion, and understanding.

"Michael’s Daughter's" universal appeal and impact transcends race, gender, and economic class.  People of all backgrounds will be touched by this story and moved to DO SOMETHING and MAKE A CHANGE after watching it.

An American Tragedy

Statistics paint a grim picture: 1 in 43 American children has a parent incarcerated, with 75% of those children being expected to end up in the prison system as well.  "Michael’s Daughter" gives voice to and offers a solution to an ever growing epidemic.

Ciera seeks to provide creative outlets for inner city children through a variety of youth oriented programs. Through her pursuits, Ciera has learned a valuable lesson by performing.  She's found that it is therapeutic and more notably, a way to confront the continuous cycle of poverty, violence, and addiction, as well as the affects of incarceration that plague minority youth.

"Michael’s Daughter" is not just a play, it’s a movement!

The IndieGoGo Campaign

In order to make the presentation of "Michael’s Daughter" a success in New York City, donations are needed!  The budget to make the performance happen is $7,500.00.  Ciera includes a very informative and straightforward video, explaining to supporters the need for funds to satisfy needs such as:
