This new tech is already available in the world of commercial helmets and portable devices, and will soon be made available as an optional extra on the upcoming 2014 S-Class and next-generation C-Class.

The type of information to be displayed includes speed, navigation information, and any pertinent warning lights. Mercedes-Benz engineers previously felt that a HUD served only to distract the driver. However, it's now clear they have come around and embraced the technology for what it is, convenient and safety-oriented, allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road while simultaneously recognizing important information.

Although the S-Class and C-Class are currently the only two models available for the optional HUD, customers can expect to see the HUD technology being rolled out on a wider range of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the future.
