MOBILE, Ala. - Aug. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Southeast Toyota Finance associates volunteered at a recent food sort at the Bay Area Food Bank warehouse, inspecting, sorting and boxing 292 cases of food weighing nearly 21,600 pounds. The sort will provide more than 16,000 servings of food to families in 24 counties along the Central Gulf Coast region. This service comes at a crucial time for families whose children count on free or discounted meals during the school year.

The Bay Area Food Bank’s mission is to meet the challenges of feeding hungry people in the community with the support of member organizations and special programs, while educating the public on the issues of hunger and proper nutrition.

“The Bay Area Food Bank provides a vital service to children and families in this area who suffer from hunger and malnourishment,” said Michael Hollis, Vice President of Service Center Operations for Southeast Toyota Finance. “Our associates’ efforts positively impact so many people relying on the organization for a healthy meal. We are pleased to be able to lend a hand and support the Food Bank’s mission.”

Since 2008, Southeast Toyota Finance associates have contributed more than 150 volunteer hours to the Bay Area Food Bank, and have donated more than $17,000 to the nonprofit as part of an annual companywide initiative.

The 39,000-square-foot facility, located in Theodore, Alabama, supports more than 700 feeding programs at nearly 600 agencies throughout south Mississippi, south Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. In 2012, the nonprofit distributed about 16 million pounds of food to more than 500 church pantries, soup kitchens and other charitable organizations in its service area. The Food Bank also operates multiple programs, including Summer Food Service, Afterschool Snack, the Backpack Program, Disaster Relief, Mobile Pantry and SNAP Outreach. Bay Area Food Bank is a United Way agency and a member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of member food banks. For more information, visit www.bayareafoodbank.org.
