TUSTIN, Calif. - Aug. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- In celebration of Crystal Cove’s rich history and unique attractions, the Resort at Pelican Hill presents “Wish You Were Here!,” Crystal Cove Alliance’s 11th annual gala on Saturday, Sept. 28. The annual bluff-top party celebrates the year-long achievements of Crystal Cove Alliance and all that Crystal Cove State Park has to offer – the restored historic district, pristine beaches, a protected shoreline, and the Moro backcountry.

Attendees will enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the bluff-top overlooking Crystal Cove, followed by a four-course gourmet dinner prepared by the Executive Chef of The Resort at Pelican Hill, in conjunction with Montage Laguna Beach and The Beachcomber Café.  A silent and live auction will be held, as well as an unprecedented opportunity drawing for a three-night stay in Crystal Cove Cottage #14 “South Beach Suite”, the newest restored ocean-front cottage. Wayne Foster Entertainment will provide live music and the perfect ambiance to dance the night away.

“Crystal Cove Alliance’s gala is the most critical event of the year as it provides financial support for our mission and our many fine programs,” said Laura Davick, CCA founder and Director of External Affairs. “This year’s theme ‘Wish You Were Here!’ depicts the joy visitors experience at Crystal Cove, whether it’s for a hike along the bluff or in our backcountry, a ‘citizen science’ student outing or a weekend vacation in our historic cottages. We invite everyone to come and celebrate with us!”

This year’s honorary co-chairs, Julie and Doug Cavanaugh, are longtime supporters and CCA food partners with The Beachcomber Cafe and The Crystal Cove Shake Shack.

“Crystal Cove has been a big part of my family for many years,” said Doug Cavanaugh. “Chairing this year’s gala provides Julie and me with a proud opportunity to help showcase for others – and their families – how enriching this incredible destination can be to those who embrace all it offers.”

Special Honorees Michael and Tricia Berns, residents of adjacent Laguna Beach, are strong supporters of Crystal Cove Alliance and avid users of the park. They are being recognized, in particular, for their incredible $1 million donation now being used to develop a unique educational and environmental treasure in the Moro Canyon section of Crystal Cove State Park. The Berns Environmental Study Loop, a half-mile of mini-field stations where visitors can perform valuable and educational “citizen science” endeavors, will be completed later this year. The grand opening is set for January 31, 2014, the kickoff of California State Park’s 150th anniversary year.

About Crystal Cove Alliance

Crystal Cove Alliance (CCA), the official nonprofit partner of Crystal Cove State Park, is dedicated to preserving the cultural, natural and historic resources of Crystal Cove. Founded in 1999 by Laura Davick to stop a planned luxury resort from overtaking the area, CCA rescued the historic site and initiated one of the most successful public-private partnership models in the history of the California State Park system.

Today, CCA has expanded its focus to include all 3.2 miles of pristine coastline, more than 3,700 acres of backcountry habitat and 1,100 acres offshore in the Underwater Park. CCA has turned Crystal Cove into a laboratory for developing innovative educational programs and experiences that promote science and environmental literacy to more than 1.5 million visitors and students each year.  CCA’s conservation work insures access by a range of recreational enthusiasts while maintaining protection of critical habitat and protecting endangered and threatened species.

The partnership between Crystal Cove State Park and the Crystal Cove Alliance has led to the renovation of 29 historic beachfront cottages now open for overnight stays, as well as historic education programs designed for the public. CCA is proud of the park receiving the prestigious 2007 Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation. A leader in fundraising, restoration, education and concession services, CCA is devoted to creating a sustainable future for Crystal Cove. Seventeen historic cottages remain to be restored.
