BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Aug. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Bakersfield, CA – Dave Meador, CEO for GWC Valve International, recognizes that water and wastewater operations are challenged each day to run continually. These essential operations are governed by working equipment and machinery. In order to ensure that operation runs smoothly and effectively, valves must meet or exceed industry standards. As global valve manufacturers, GWC Valve offers these five tips to selecting from the main valves used in the water and wastewater industries.

Tip # 1: Know if you need a valve that operates completely open or closed. Gate Valves are slow at operation, while Ball Valves are quick to open and close.

Tip # 2: Determine if you want to throttle liquids. Some valves, like Butterfly Valves are not intended to use for throttling for long intervals. Other valves, like Globe Valves, can be used to throttle and provide the ability to not lead even under the shut off position.

Tip # 3: Decide upon the amount of flow needed. Plug valves have the ability to have unobstructed flow. Globe valves have a pattern that obstructs the flow more so than other valves.

Tip # 4: Learn if you need a compact valve or not. Butterfly valves are more compact as compared to Flanged Gate Valves and Ball Valves, and can still operate large flows.

Tip # 5: Figure out the turn rate needed. Some valves, such as Plug Valves, operate at a 90 degree turn to open. There are different advantages to this valve type, that include little to no corrosion of the stem. Other valves, such as the Butterfly Valves, use a quarter turn.
