By: Baxter Restoration to stop the itch of Central Florida’s homeless ORLANDO, Fla. – August 2013 – Earlier this month, the downtown Orlando based disaster restoration company, Baxter Restoration, hoped to meet a need expressed by The Hope Team at Health Care Center for the Homeless. “This time of year, our clients who live outdoors are most frequently asking for mosquito repellent,” said Nancy Martinez, the Hope Team Leader for HCCH. David Baxter, owner of Baxter Restoration, quickly heeded the call. The company managed to order a case of 300 individual insect repellent wipes. Upon delivering the donation to the grateful staff at HCCH, the Baxter Restoration team learned some disturbing statistics. “They told us that the 300 wipes would only last about a week, given the number of clients they have who live outdoors” recalls Baxter. “We were floored, we hadn’t realized the need is so great!” With that, his marketing team mobilized to find a way to supply a much larger quantity of repellent. Many people/companies were approached, but it was The Home Depot Headquarters and Spectrum Brands (makers of Cutter Insect Repellents and Repel Insect Repellents) who responded. “Our persistence paid off, and they donated a pallet of the insect fighting wipes delivered right to the door of HCCH,” said David, with a satisfied smile. “We couldn’t have done it alone. The way the corporate community stepped up to meet the need was impressive.” Terri Betts, development associate for HCCH, upon hearing about the donation, commented “it is always heartwarming to see the business community advocating for the underserved in our neighborhoods!” Baxter Restoration’ Located just down the street from Baxter Restoration, Health Care Center for the Homeless (HCCH) has been serving Central Florida for 20 years in their mission is "to provide quality health care services that improve the lives of the homeless and medically indigent people of our community."
