Record World Magazine was founded in 1946 under the name Music Vendor. The name was changed in 1964 to Record World. For parts of five decades,Record World magazine was one of the three main music industry trade publications in the United States along with Billboard and Cash Box. The original Record World ceased publication in April 1982. Many music industry personalities, writers and critics had started their careers there in the early 1970s to 1980s.
In 2012, a book detailing the history of Record World (and it’s predecessor publication, Music Vendor) was released.
