Aug. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Vancouver, B.C. – With a group of 40 new students set to start classes in the Master of Digital Media program at the beginning of September, the administrators of the post-graduate program have already planned an increase of $50,000 for their 2014 scholarships. The 2013/2014 cohort – who are coming to Vancouver to study at the prestigious one-year masters program from China, India, USA and, of course, Canada, were eligible for – and awarded – a total of $300,000 in scholarships, an increase of 50% over the previous year’s scholarship fund.

For the 2014 September start date, Dr. Richard Smith, Director of the Master of Digital Media program at the Centre for Digital Media, recently projected that the scholarship fund will increase to at least $350,000, with the potential of it being even higher.

“The increase each year in our scholarships means that the Master of Digital Media program will continue to attract the best and brightest minds in digital design and media from around the world,” said Dr. Smith. “While the program has extremely high standards for entry, we also know some exceptional students may not have the funds available for tuition. We don’t want money to be a barrier for top students.” The Master of Digital Media program is currently accepting applications for 2014/2015. Dr. Smith added: “We encourage applicants to consider renting an apartment in the Centre for Digital Media’s on-campus student housing. Not only are they great units, we find that living on campus provides a valuable depth to the educational experience. It helps students develop lifelong bonds and it creates an exciting, engaging and community-minded on-campus culture.”

The Master of Digital Media (MDM) program was established in September 2007, with an inaugural cohort of 21 students; over 160 students have since graduated. MDM alumni are engaged in the industry as producers, managers, creators and lead designers, using MDM acquired skills to benefit the digital media community. The program attracts students from British Columbia and around the world, and in six short years has seen many graduates experience success in the digital media industry.
