Barnes of Reno, NV.  “Or stress causes them to behave impulsively or in a self-destructive manner.  They hit the send button on a blistering email that the boss uses as evidence against them.”

            Barnes says scientific research shows  meditation provides relief from anxiety and stress.  Meditation helps workers gain clarity and to focus upon a reasoned and constructive solution to their problems.  She said meditation is easily adapted to the workplaces.
            Barnes says the poor economy and high unemployment hold many workers hostage to bad jobs.  For example, she says, older workers who lose their job are unemployed longer and, if they do find new employment, are paid far less.  “Everyone knows it’s hard for older workers to quit so they are an easy target for bullying,” she said.
            Workers who remain in stressful jobs risk significant harm to their  mental and physical health.  Barnes says overwhelming medical research shows that targets of bullying and abuse suffer short-term health effects, including anxiety, insomnia, exhaustion and depression.  New research suggests that workers who are exposed to stress over a many years may develop chronic health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease.
            Transcend Your Boss: Zen and the Difficult Workplace provides simple instruction for workplace meditation, and offers guided meditations designed for workers who in a difficult workplace. The book also explores Zen theory, which is based on the 2,500 year old teachings of the Buddha.
