“Amazingly, marching had made Mallika feel better. Her anger had melted. ‘I’ll never get so angry again,’ she promised. ‘No matter what!’
But that was before the langur monkeys laughed at her.”

Amazing Mallika includes a parent’s guide, interesting colorful illustrations, not at all the twaddle I see in most newer books.

What first caught my attention about this book was the amazing illustrations. They were art works in and of themselves. The story did a great job of teaching better ways to deal with anger. I talked with my 4-year old granddaughter about the story the next day and she remembered all of the important messages.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story to help children deal with anger

There are many ways the tiger's mother helps her to deal with anger. This is a story many children (and even adults) can associate with. Anger is often an unnecessary part of our lives. We need to use the tactics in the book in order to subdue the anger and gain control of our lives.
5.0 out of 5 stars My son easily picked up on the idea
My son picked out the ideas of why he shouldn't get angry without me having to point anything out. And he didn't see the book as Mom preaching to him on why he shouldn't get angry.

Journey to India and discover ways to control a hot temper.
MALLIKA is a tiger with a temper. Her short fuse is ignited first by her infuriating brother Ben and then by a mischievous band of jeering monkeys. Short-tempered Mallika even manages to get mad at herself!
It takes Mallika a while to figure out that being angry is no fun and that a tantrum doesn't make things better.
India's Ranthambhore National Park is the scene of Jami Parkison's powerful story about managing anger. Once the private hunting grounds of maharajahs, Ranthambhore is now a wildlife sanctuary and home to the magnificent Bengal tiger. Under ancient banyan trees and among ruins of palaces and pavilions, this now endangered species rules the landscape. Ranthambhore is home to a host of exotic species, including leaping sambar deer, the regal peacock, the imposing tree-pie bird, and the revered langur monkey. Artist Itoko Maeno captures the mystery and excitement of Mallika's world in compelling watercolor illustrations.
So journey to India and Mallika's world and meet an amazing little tiger who learns amazing ways to control her hot temper.
A SURPRISE and added bonus is the "Enrichment Information"
A second big plus is the "Letter to Parents and Educators" which includes many relevant questions and comments to facilitate conversation with young readers about the message of the story...learning to manage and control anger and temper tantrums. So even though on the surface this is just an engaging story for children, it is also truly helpful in a real way.
This book is one of a series of 25 luminously illustrated children’s books, each with an animal protagonist, a compelling geographic location, an important life skills message and multicultural enrichment materials.
Each serious lesson is embedded in an exciting colorful adventurous story...subtle, indeed.
