David Stockman, of “The Great Deformation” to join Jay Taylor on "Turning Hard Times into Good"

David Stockman will discuss his latest book “The Great Deformation” and why he thinks it’s too late for America to avoid heading into an abyss of financial chaos and an economic depression. A banking system that had gone off the gold standard in 1971 made possible financial promiscuity on the part of American politicians on a scale never before seen in the history of the world and that has led to an ongoing destruction of America’s middle class and the rise of a filthy rich parasitic top 1% comprised of Wall Street bankers and top corporate executives. When Stockman went public with his knowledge of America’s financial condition and warned that unless significant budget cuts were made and/or taxes increased, he caused President Reagan political embarrassment for telling the truth. David’s punishment was characterized by the Media as being “taken to the woodshed by President Reagan for a good whipping.”   

Trouble is, David was right. Fiscal irresponsibility by Stockman's boss and all Presidents since made possible by the absence of a gold-backed currency anywhere in the world has led America to the brink of global insolvency as debt has grown much more rapidly than global income to service it.  David will opine on whether this American economic pathology will play out through the fires of a hyper inflation or a deflationary depression and he will also tell us what he thinks we should do to prepare ourselves for some very difficult times ahead.

About David Stockman:

Mr. Stockman was formerly a senior managing director of The Blackstone Group. Prior to joining Blackstone, Mr. Stockman was a managing director at Salomon Brothers, Inc. He served as the director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Reagan administration from 1981 to August 1985 and was the youngest Cabinet member of the twentieth century. From 1976 to 1981, Mr. Stockman represented Michigan in the House of Representatives.
