The Biggest Weekend in Bucks County – September 7 and 8, 2013

Doylestown Arts Festival and Thompson Bucks County Classic Draw Thousands to Doylestown

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Aug. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Doylestown, PA – If there was ever a weekend to take advantage of everything Bucks County has to offer, this is the one. Together, the Doylestown Arts Festival and the Thompson Bucks County Classic will draw thousands of spectators to the bustling streets of downtown Doylestown. There will be something for everyone – a wide variety of artisans and crafters, live entertainment and food, as well as a children’s bike race and professional cycling events for biking enthusiasts.

Now in its 22nd year, the Doylestown Arts Festival features juried artisans showcasing their creative works – including jewelry, clothing, furniture, accessories, pottery, photography, paintings and more. Live entertainment – from solo acts to rock, pop, folk, big band and music for kids – is presented at numerous locations throughout the downtown area. A diverse variety of food choices are available at the festival’s food court, and also from the restaurants in town.

Hosted by the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance (DBCA) and sponsored by The Thompson Organization, the Doylestown Arts Festival is held from 10 am to 5 pm both Saturday and Sunday. Thompson has been the major sponsor since the Festival’s inception in 1991, and adds an exciting dynamic with the 2nd annual, two-day Thompson Bucks County Classic professional bike race.

Beginning on Saturday at 10:30 am, the New Hope to Doylestown Road Race is a taste of the Tour de France in a spectacular Bucks County setting – including multiple covered bridges and spanning Solebury, Buckingham, Plumstead, Bedminster and Doylestown Townships. Audi is the Official Auto of this prestigious race, which is one of only seven UCI-ranked (International Cycling Union) road races for men in the United States. Audi is also the patron of the Audi Best Climber Award, given to the cyclist with the best performance up the famed Wismer Road hill.

The prime viewing area for the New Hope to Delaware Road Race lies along the Delaware River at the Thompson family-owned Lumberville General Store. Spectators will get a real taste of the race with a race day party and Bavarian-style pig roast as the pro-cyclists endure lap after lap through Lumberville.

The Thompson Criterium of Doylestown, which takes place on Sunday at 1:00 pm, encircles the Doylestown Arts Festival and is a must-see for racing fans or those experiencing cycling for the first time. Lexus is both the Official Auto of the Criterium – with the all-new 2014 IS leading the race as the official Pace Car – and the patron of the Lexus Best Young Rider Award. Preceding the Criterium is a recreational ride for cycling enthusiasts at 8:30 am and the ever-popular children’s races at 12:00 pm. Add in house parties, music and great food and you have a recipe for the perfect family day!
