Diesel Powertrains Have Been the Key to Volkswagen’s Success

Aiming to become the world’s largest auto company, Volkswagen is attributing much of its current success in the Canadian market to its diesel offerings.

Aug. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Maintaining high fuel efficiency without sacrificing power is achievable through the diesel offering on six different Volkswagen vehicles, and they have gone a long way to making the automaker a top seller in Canada. Auto Haus Volkswagen, a local Winnipeg VW dealership (http://autohausvw.com/vehicles/modelshowroom.aspx?lng=2), is stocked with a large selection of TDI clean diesel models.

As Volkswagen continues to focus on their diesel options, the advantage that they will bring to the market will go largely unchallenged by other auto manufacturers. While other companies may offer diesel options on a select number of vehicles, a large majority of the Volkswagen lineup is already diesel-capable and they are achieving notable fuel economy ratings. The 2014 Volkswagen Passat (http://autohausvw.com/Vehicles/2014/Passat/LandingPage.aspx?lng=2) 2.0 TDI, for example, earned a rating of 6.8 L/100 km in the city and 4.4 L/100 km on the highway while still putting out 140 hp and 236 lb-ft. of maximum torque for responsive acceleration on-demand.

Volkswagen also revealed plans to equip a select number of new Volkswagen vehicles in their lineup with a 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine that will likely find its way under the hoods of the Passat, Golf, and Jetta. This engine will produce 150 hp, which is 10 more horsepower than the current diesel offering, and the same amount of torque at 236 lb-ft. This new diesel engine will be able to meet global emissions standards by reducing excess particulates, nitron oxides, and carbon dioxide.

The current sales trend for Volkswagen might have the company achieving yet another record sales year in Canada. Volkswagen sales were up 6 percent in the country over the past model year and are expected to continue increasing.
