Pottery Northwest is pleased to present "explorations," a solo exhibition of new works by Akiko Jackson. The show will run from August 30 through September 20, 2013 in the Gallery of Pottery Northwest's historic home at 226 First Avenue North (between Thomas and John), just one block south of the Key Arena at the Seattle Center. An Opening Reception with the artist will be held on Friday, August 30th, from 7-9 pm. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Akiko Jackson is from Kahuku, a rural North Shore community on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i. She earned two masters degrees: an MA from California State University, Northridge and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Akiko has been a resident artist at Pottery Northwest since Fall of 2011.  Her extensive background in sculpture and site-specific installation will be showcased in this solo exhibition, explorations.  The show consists entirely of new work, made in Seattle.  Gallery-goers may also recognize Akiko's work from her traveling piece, heritage braided (800ft of braided black synthetic hair) which is concurrently on exhibition at the Wing Luke Museum, and will remain up through November 17th

Jackson is a recipient of the 2013 Art Bridge Fellowship from Pratt Fine Arts Center.  The generous support of the staff and artists at Pratt enabled Akiko to fabricate all of the metal components of her artworks for this exhibition.
