Queenslanders Flock Over to Click Energy

Over 10,000 Queensland residents have switched over to Click Energy in July and August as part of the electricity switching campaign organised by One Big Switch in Queensland.

The idea for the consumer-powered campaign, titled ‘The Big Queensland Electricity Switch’, was born from the QLD consumers’ concern over their ever-increasing electricity bills. The consumer network One Big Switch addressed the concern by launching a campaign that demanded cheaper energy. The campaign attracted a total of 63,000 sign ups from QLD residents and backing from major news companies The Courier-Mail, 7 News and The Sunday Mail.

One Big Switch negotiated a deal with Click Energy for a promise of cheaper electricity bills. Although Click Energy had already established itself as the cheapest energy retailer in Queensland, the deal between One Big Switch and the electricity provider guaranteed even cheaper electricity for those who has signed up to The Big Queensland Electricity Switch and switched over during the campaign.

Estimated savings on the regulated tariff for a family of four who switched to Click Energy were $240 per year. This included a 7 % discount when paying on time and over the Internet and a further $100 in rebates off bills in the first year with Click Energy.

Says the Click Energy General Manager of Marketing Pieter Double: “We have always believed that offering some of the cheapest electricity in Australia to our customers is the way forward. The popularity of The Big Queensland Electricity Switch proves that we are on the right track.”

The newly signed up QLD customers will also receive the same benefits as current Click Energy customers; no lock-in contracts, break fees, exit fees or credit card fees. Plus, if the customer uses solar energy, they get an extra 10c per kWh in addition to their government feed-in rate.

The campaign, which ended August 9^th, was a one-time offer to anyone switching electricity over to Click Energy. Currently there are no plans for re-opening the offer or re-introducing the $100 rebate.
