According to 2013 i“Many companies struggle to provide adequate intellectual property training, though we are encouraged by the significant growth of companies that have formal intellectual property training programs and shown improvement of employee intellectual property knowledge.“ says Robert Williamson, president at ipPerformance Group. In this study ipPerformance assess the trends in corporate intellectual property training programs. This investigation includes analyzing the comprehensiveness of intellectual property training programs, topics offered, success metrics, and program features and factors that have the greatest impact on achieving training goals. Among the findings that emerged from this research are the following: • Overall, more than 59% of companies scored their senior and R&D management as very knowledgeable about handling trade secret (confidential/ • 25% of companies stated that their intellectual property training program approach is a “formal standardized curriculum”. In comparison to our results in 2010, the 2013 result is almost double. • PowerPoint is the predominant training delivery method, though eLearning has increased significantly since our 2010 study. • Thirty-six topics were reported as part of the IP Training Program, six topics were indicated by more than 50% of companies. The most popular topic taught is Patent Concepts. 38 companies representing a variety of industries participated in this comprehensive study, including Sasol, Appear, All Clear Diagnostics, Novozymes A/S, Bank of America, Flextronics, Sun Chemical, Futuragene, and Dow Corning.
