Louisville Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Stacie Grossfeld and KORT Help Louisville Ballet as Season Begins

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Aug. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The Louisville Ballet is kicking of the 2013 - 2014 season with a performance of Swan Lake on September 13 and 14, 2013. Bruce Simpson, the Artistic Director for the Louisville Ballet, is responsible for the choreography and staging for this performance, with music by Tchaikovsky.

This popular ballet details the love story between Princess Odette and Prince Siegfried. With a love divided by an evil spell, Swan Lake offers lots of unexpected twists and turns and is enjoyed by people of all ages.

In order to keep the dancers performing at their highest level, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Stacie Grossfeld provides orthopedic medical services and sports medicine to the ballerinas. 

Dr. Stacie Grossfeld is a board certified orthopedic physician with special training in sports medicine and orthopedic surgery.  Dr. Grossfeld has her own medical practice, Orthopaedic Specialists, (www.louisvillebones.com) located at 4001 Kresge Way in Louisville, Kentucky.  

Dr. Grossfeld has experience successfully treating many different athletes including dancers with the Louisville Ballet, cyclocross participants in the Cyclocross World Championships, pro soccer players, and athletes engaged in a wide variety of sports activities including lacrosse, football, wrestling, softball, baseball, cheerleading, running, volleyball, body building, swimming, tennis and many more.

Orthopaedic Specialists is a participating member of the Stop Sports Injuries Campaign and Dr. Grossfeld was recently elected to the Board of Directors for Louisville Sports Commission.

In order to deliver athletes like the ballerinas at the Louisville Ballet the highest level of care, Dr. Grossfeld works closely with KORT, the Kentucky Orthopedic Rehab Team. KORT provides outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and sports medicine rehab to athletes at the Louisville Ballet and many others in need of these orthopedic rehab services. 

While dancers are in peak physical performance, they are also at risk of many common injuries. Common injuries experienced by dancers include the following:

Foot injuries like plantar fasciitis

Ankle injuries including Achilles tendinitis, sprains, stress fractures and impingement syndrome

Knee injuries including patellar tendonitis, Plica syndrome, meniscus tear and issues related to hyperextension

Hip injuries which include, for example, piriformis syndrome and trochanteric bursitis

Shoulder injuries like shoulder sprains, rotator cuff tear, dislocated shoulders and shoulder impingement

Hand, wrist and elbows including carpal tunnel syndrome, medial epicondylitis and lateral epicondylitis

Dancers may also experience injuries to the spine, including lower back strain, herniated disks and other injuries and conditions.

Following the Louisville Ballet’s performance of Swan Lake in September, other performances scheduled for the Louisville Ballet's 62nd season include the Brown-Forman Nutcracker and La Sylphide.
