The festival is held in elimination rounds in different countries throughout the year. The first two rounds are decided by the vote of the attending audience. The audience can vote as many times as they want and for as many bands as they choose. The final rounds are judged by a professional panel of judges. The goal for each band is to win their national competition and move on to the international finals.
The international finals are held at the Taubertal Open Air Festival in August. Emergenza pays the bands way to Germany. The winning band in the three day international finals gets a tour, instruments, promotion and more. Bands who make the international finals will share the bill with some of rocks biggest legends such as The Editors, BUSH and Pink. The winning band is crowned "The Best Band in the World."
