Great First Step to Manage Fear and Anxiety

I would recommend this book as a first step for managing fear. The examples used will assist with the development of how to get over many fears or anxiety you may feel. This book would also be helpful for counselors to use in group counseling. It is an easy read with a fantastic summary and good reference points. By: L. Chisholm----Posted On Amazon

Family, Friends, Self Help

Clients who suffer from irrational & rational fears require exactly what Stanley has outlined & expounded upon. To focus & take small steps of successful confrontation with yourself. As each step is secured then on to the next to finally know how best to deal with or plan around future incidents. Talking themselves down from the ledge is an appropriate analogy, I think. Stan included components that would be useful to a broad range of persons too rather than applying only one technique or methodology. Non resistant rather than analysis @ the peak of anxiety is very wise to immediately relieve the suffering; later working on more effective strategies. Introducing GOD as an agent will be familiar to some. As a counselor's instrument, the information conveyed in sessions will help determine which approach might be most effective, or perhaps all three. I think the book would even be useful for workshop training purposes. Frankly, some of my CE course work, written by PhD's, hasn't been as comprehensive. By: Wendy Kile, BSW---Posted On Amazon

Like a conversation with a good friend

Reading Stanley's little book on fear is very much like being talked down off of a scary emotional cliff by a friend. The points are not complex or new. However, for the price and the time invested, this book gathers some good points that anyone can apply to reducing their fears and anxieties. If the reader is not open to making changes, the book's helpfulness may be limited. But, for those truly interested and willing to get started (or continue) with personal growth and the making of new mental habits, there are some simple and practical suggestions given here. Very Easy Read

I found this book an easy read with practical approaches for dealing with a real problem. Many people who struggle with fear and anxiety can be paralyzed by their own fear. This book gives easy to follow instructions for breaking free from the grip of fear. This book can be used in a variety of settings particularly prisoner re-entry programs (fear of society). Many programs such as these are faith based and this is a practical guide for case managers to use in helping the clients overcome their fears of finding employment to overcoming addiction. As a practitioner of CBT to help people manage conflict, this book offers good advice in simple terms to learn new approaches to managing fear and anxiety. A Good Reminder about Fear

Managing Fear offers readers a good reminder of how to look at FEAR and put it in it's place. The author references philisophical and Biblical references that give broad viewpoints. This book is a good reference or reminder for anyone struggling with fear and how to step past these thoughts to achieve great things. By: The Positive Perspective---Posted On Amazon

Easy to read and informative

A Layman's Guide to Fear does a great job summarizing a variety of useful approaches to managing fear in our everyday lives. It offers a summary of approaches that are used in psychotherapy and provides great examples to illustrate the points he is making. The examples he uses are ones that we can all relate to and illustrate common struggles.
Stanley Popovich is also clear to point out the strategies in his book are not to be used as a substitute for individual counseling to address fear that would significantly interfere in ones functioning. This is a great book to start to get an understanding on how to work through fear. It is easy to read and informative; I would recommend it to helping professionals and layman.
