FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Aug. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Fairfield Stags product Colin Nickerson (Waukegan High School/Waukegan, Illinois) was drafted in the second round of the National Basketball League Canada draft, becoming the 20th overall pick in the league draft. Nickerson was chosen by the London Lightning, a team that has won consecutive Canadian league championships.

Nickerson graduated from Fairfield University in May after spending four seasons with the Stags men’s basketball team. During his stay, the guard finished his career with 711 points in 138 games. Nickerson quickly became known for his defense, collecting 192 steals over his four-year career. An accurate shooter, Nickerson shot around 46 percent from the field as a Stag, including 52 percent during his junior year.

Nickerson becomes the second Stag from the 2012-13 team to sign a professional contract, joining Derek Needham who joined BC Siauliai in Lithuania last month. Four Fairfield student-athletes have gone to the pro ranks over the last two years with Rakim Sanders playing in Israel and Ryan Olander going to Lithuania following the 2011-12 campaign.

The Stags, under the guidance of Head Coach Sydney Johnson, posted a 19-16 overall record in 2012-13 after winning 20 or more games in the previous three seasons. Fairfield advanced to postseason play for the fourth straight season when it received an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

The Fairfield University basketball team will open the 2013-14 season on November 9 against Sacred Heart University as part of the Connecticut 6 Classic. Fairfield will also play in the Naismith Hall of Fame Tip Off in November which includes a November 23 date with defending national champion University of Louisville.

Season tickets as well as tickets for the Naismith Hall of Fame Tip Off are available now by calling the Fairfield University Athletic Ticket Office at (203) 254-4136.
