YUMA, Ariz. - Aug. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), almost 1.8 million students will graduate in the class of 2013 at the bachelor’s level.  This is an impressive number of young professionals who are entering the workforce.  Unfortunately, the general unemployment rate remains high at well over 7%.

For college graduates it can be a challenge entering the workforce with little to no applicable work experience, especially when the economy is still struggling.  This fact is true for virtually all professions, including safety management.

To help students increase their marketability, the Institute for Safety and Health Management now offers safety certification programs tailored specifically for recent college graduates entering the safety management field.  The ISHM administers the internationally recognized Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) certification and the Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM) and Certified Safety Management Practitioner (CSMP) programs for safety professionals and safety managers.

The special ISHM college graduate program provides a streamlined process to help graduates become certified in safety management. Recent graduates of ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited college and university programs and those from additional ISHM Board approved bachelors and higher education programs now have two programs tailored to their needs. They include:

•   Qualified graduates now have the opportunity to apply for the ASHM program with no application fee and a streamlined process.
•   The experience required to sit for the CSHM certification is reduced from 5 years to just 2 years for those that qualify.

“When a person in a hiring position has to decide between a qualified candidate and a qualified candidate with an ISHM certification, the certified individual has a tremendous advantage,” stated Larry Curtis, CSHM, Executive Director of ISHM.  “ISHM is working to inform students, school administrators, teachers and career guidance professionals about these exceptional programs for their students so that they can enter the safety profession with the tools and credentials they need to succeed.”
