TORONTO - Aug. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Sherway Gardens’ (Hwy 427 & the QEW) current Gallery in the Garden exhibit entitled A Delicate Balance features stone sculptures by Georgetown artist Graham Bowden. The exhibit is on display until September 14 in the corridor at door 3. For more information call 416-621-1070 or visit www.sherwaygardens.ca.

After being educated as an engineer and finishing a 35 year career as a land surveyor, Graham Bowden switched direction and became an artist. He experimented in wood, pottery, and stained glass, before finding his passion in stone and completed several courses with the stone carvers at Williams Mill, Glen Williams and the summer program at Haliburton School of the Arts.

Unlike painting where you apply paint, the artist removes material to reveal the form within the stone when sculpting. Graham creates 3-dimensional stone sculptures that are expressions of strength and balance by using the shape and colour, the subtle turnings and shadows, and the fine lines and planes to reveal the inner energy. The observer interacts with the sculpture to feel the energy infused through the artist’s hands.

Graham’s knowledge of geometry and strength of materials from these rigorous disciplines and courses in other art forms complement the art and technical skills of his stone sculpting.

Graham’s recent exhibits and Juried Shows include “Locally Grown”, Helson Gallery, 2013; “Emerging Artist of 2012”, 13th Annual Juried Emerging Sculptors Exhibition, Sculptors Society of Canada;  “Beauxs-Arts Brampton Open Juried Show”, 2011; “United Way sculpture prize donation”, 2011; “John Sommer Juried Show”, 2009 and 2010.
