LANSING, Mich. - Aug. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- It’s that time of year when university and college students from across the country are starting the new school year filled with enthusiasm and drive to accomplish their goals.  Many of these same students are closely watching how the economy is progressing as they plan their future careers upon completing school.

For the last 5 years, the unemployment rate has been high.  Although these rates have been gradually declining, many students still recognize that entering the job market in their chosen field can be a challenge.

ABIH suggests occupational hygiene students begin thinking about the importance of becoming a certified professional early in their careers.  Professionals with internationally recognized certifications, such as the CIH, enjoy a competitive edge for job placement, advancement and increased professional credibility.

To help these students begin planning on becoming a Certified Industrial Hygienist, ABIH encourages existing CIHs to become involved with sharing their experiences with students.  ABIH has developed slide decks, brochures, an educational video and other promotional materials that make for excellent content when asked to speak at one’s Alma Mater or other event involving students.

“As a certified professional in the industrial hygiene field, CIHs are often much more influential than they may realize when interacting with students,” said Tracy Parsons, CIH, Administrative Program Manager at ABIH.    “Sometimes, all it takes is a word of encouragement or the visibility of a successful role model to help a student set high expectations for their career.  Understanding the doors that a CIH certification can open for them as they enter the workforce early in their careers can make a huge difference and provide exceptional value to our next generation of industrial hygiene professionals,” he continued.
