By: Phylliss Johnson Labor Day Laughter featuring Tommy Davidson promises to be an evening of live entertainment. The show will be held at the Orpheum Theater, 200 N. Broadway St, Wichita, KS on Monday evening September 2, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. The event will feature two other stand up comedians, Vince Acevedo and Jovan Bibbs. Tommy Davidson secured his first gigs in the mid-1980s, performing in various comedy clubs throughout the Washington Metropolitan region, Baltimore and Philadelphia. His first major exposure came on the variety show In Living Color, where he played various characters, including his impersonations of Sammy Davis, Jr. and Sugar Ray Leonard, and child victim of Homey D. Clown. He has also appeared in the films Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Strictly Business, Booty Call and Juwanna Mann. Davidson provided the voice for "Oscar Proud," the father in the Disney animated series The Proud Family. Davidson’s comedy is extremely expressively funny, motivating and energetic, mixed with real life stories. He is all in one, with his singing, impersonating and hilarious comedy. Vince Acevedo is a self-proclaimed “old soul,” veteran comedian who has performed at some of the nation’s top comedy clubs and festivals, including the 2010 and 2011 editions of TBS Just For Laughs Chicago. Vince’s extensive touring history has seen him open for the likes of Donnell Rawlings, Hannibal Buress, Tommy Davidson, Rhys Darby, The Wayans Brothers, Deon Cole, and Garfunkel and Oates, to name but a few. His comedy is hilarious, gut busting and crazy with unpredictable punch lines. Jovan’s Bibbs has had the opportunity to grace the stage with stars, such as, Sommore, Kevin Hart, Dick Gregory, Sheryl Underwood, Joe Torry, Guy Torry and Arvin Mitchell. After only a year in comedy, he was selected to perform on BET's ComicView (New Orleans), in which he made an outstanding debut. He has also made appearances in many comedy festivals, including Jamie Foxx's "Laffopalooza" A portion of the proceeds for Labor Day Laughter will go to benefit the Mayor Carl Brewer's work with at-risk youth through Episcopal Social Services. This is a very diverse show and good clean comedy for the entire family to enjoy. The evening will also feature special musical guest ‘Something Xtra” and the debut of Tommy Davidson’s dance crew, “The Tomboys” which consist of local dancers.
