Recycling Program at The Savannah Mall Helping the Environment

Aug. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- (SAVANNAH, GA) The Savannah Mall has reduced its total waste by approximately 35 percent since launching a recycling program in May. The mall, which is working with Deep Green, a Roswell-based company that specializes in making retail properties more efficient in their waste disposal, plans to implement more recycling initiatives in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint.

“The Savannah Mall is committed to reducing waste and preserving the environment,” said Savannah Mall General Manager Phil McConnell. “We’re very pleased with the progress we’ve made and look forward to launching even more recycling programs at the Savannah Mall.”

The Savannah Mall’s first effort to reduce waste is a cardboard recycling program in which merchants separate their cardboard from other waste and place it in a recycling bin. In addition to saving resources by recycling the cardboard, the program has established a protocol to ensure that central trash bins are being hauled away only when completely full rather than on scheduled days, thus reducing the number of overall landfill hauls being made and decreasing fuel emissions. Deep Green estimates that the Savannah Mall’s hauls will go from 100 to less than 70 over the course of a year.

A plastics recycling program will be launched at the Savannah Mall in the near future.
