CONNOLLY, Ireland - Aug. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- Limerick Going for Gold today announced that Caroline Curley of Limerick City Council, David Hurley of The Limerick Leader newspaper and National TidyTowns adjudicator Nick Condon will judge the TidyTowns category of this year’s competition.

Organised by Limerick City Council in association with the JP McManus Charitable Foundation, Limerick Going for Gold encourages businesses, community groups and individuals to improve their areas by getting involved in the National TidyTowns Competition and generally improving their areas and reducing the impact of litter across the City.

The Going for Gold TidyTowns Category is well underway with live interviews taking place on Live 95FM with accompanying weekly coverage in the Limerick Leader, Limerick Chronicle and Limerick Post newspapers. The three additional competition categories include Community Challenge, Individual Merit and Most Beautiful Front Garden, the closing date for which has been extended to Tuesday, 27th August 2013.

The newly announced judges today met with the Mayor of Limerick Cllr Kathleen Leddin in King John's Castle. Mayor Leddin stated: “I would like to thank the judges for their contribution to the Limerick Going for Gold Campaign.  Judging is never an easy task and I am grateful to them for taking on this ask. There is great work going on within communities across the city - Judging ‘Limerick Going for Gold’ 2013 will be a real challenge.”

David Hurley, a well known journalist with The Limerick Leader, wrote feature articles on each of the groups participating in last year’s initiative. He said: “Judging Going for Gold 2013 will not be easy, but I am looking forward to seeing the work communities have undertaken for this year's campaign.”

Caroline Curley Director of Service, Limerick City and County Council, added: “This is my first year being a judge in the Going for Gold campaign. It is inspiring to see how motivated limerick communities are to make Limerick a cleaner brighter place to work live and visit. Best of luck to all the communities taking part.”

Fellow judge Nick Condon has a wide range of experience in adjudicating TidyTowns across Ireland. He commented: “I am delighted to be involved with the Limerick Going for Gold Campaign.  It complements the national TidyTowns competition beautifully and encourages active citizenship.”

The Going for Gold judges have a number of important duties, the first of which will be to pick four Wild Card Finalists in the Going for Gold TidyTowns category. These Wild Cards will be chosen from those who do not win the Weekly Text Votes on Live 95FM over the next few weeks.  Following this, it will be up to the judges to adjudicate all nine Limerick Going for Gold TidyTowns category finalists (5 from text votes / 4 wildcards).

The Limerick Going for Gold Grand Final takes place in September and will feature the founder of the ILoveLimerick website, Richard Lynch, as the master of ceremonies. The overall winner of the Tidy Towns category will be decided based on 50% TidyTowns marks and 50% judges’ marks.
