NEW YORK - Aug. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- Just in time for National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, the world’s most innovative and “breast-like” baby bottle has launched and is available for purchase at www.bittylab.com. The BARE® air-free baby bottle, which was first conceived in 2010 by Bittylab™-founder, 38-year old designer, entrepreneur, wife and mother of two, Priska Diaz, perfectly imitates mechanics of breastfeeding, including the nipple size and feel; milk flow and latching techniques – it’s all about the sucking; and air-free feedings to minimize gas. In cases where mom can’t breastfeed, the BARE® feeds the baby while encouraging a wide latch (like breastfeeding) to minimize nipple confusion; allows the baby to control the milk flow; and promotes the suckling motion needed to breastfeed – all of which lead to a seamless transition back to the breast – when mom and baby are ready.

The BARE Perfe-latch® nipple features several, different size orifices on its tip. With weaker suction (i.e. a newborn’s) only one, the larger orifice dispenses (the large orifice is about the orifice of a standard newborn nipple). With stronger suctions (i.e. a 10 month old baby) all the other smaller orifices dispense (like the mom’s nipple). The Perfe-latch® nipple promotes a wide latch, as with breastfeeding. The short nipple "forces" baby to open his/her mouth wide to latch onto the areola part of the nipple. Once a seal is established and baby initiates suction, the short nipple extends inside the baby's mouth, like mom's nipple. This similarity helps prevent nipple confusion and has been proven to "train" babies to properly latch on the breast. Finally, the Air-plug®, located at the bottom of the bottle, acts very similar to a syringe’s plunger and in conjunction with the Perfe-latch® nipple mimics the mechanics of breastfeeding, including flow resistance and the suckling motion.

“For me, breastfeeding my newborn was always a priority and something I intended on doing for the long haul,” said Diaz. “However, after my first baby was born and my doctor determined that I had a health condition causing a low milk supply, which in turn led to the undernourishment of my baby, I knew there had to be another option. Countless sleepless nights later due to a gassy baby from bottle-feeding, I came to the realization that my breasts don’t have air-vents, so why should baby bottles? From there, BARE® was born!”

Diaz immediately began the process of designing the BARE® air-free bottle, working with teams of engineers and manufacturers to bring the concept to life, and finally testing it out with hundreds of moms and babies from around the United States. Feedback was immediate and positive. Stories included:
•   N.H from PA, who found it challenging and near impossible to breastfeed her baby for the first five months before discovering BARE® and retraining the baby to feed from the breast;
•   H.S. from California, who was prescribed medication for her post-partum depression and had to stop breastfeeding in order to take them. Her baby would not take any of the bottles she tried…until she found BARE® and was able to quickly wean her baby off the breast.

Based on this feedback and more, the Bittylab™ team can confidently say BARE® helps:
•   Minimize a baby’s preference for a bottle over the mother’s breast;
•   Enforce proper latching techniques that ultimately alleviate mom’s cracked/sore nipples; and
•   Lower the amount of backwash entering the baby bottle, which in turn slows bacteria growth.

Further, because BARE® works with suction mechanics as opposed to gravity, the baby can feed in any position, including upright. The upright feeding position is recommended by Pediatricians to help:
1.   Prevent gas, colic, fuss and spit-ups;
2.   Calm acid reflux / GERDS symptoms;
3.   Prevent ear infections;
4.   Promote proper posture for the baby, which allows for better digestion;
5.   Develop early self-feeding skills; and
6.   Allow for easier weaning later on and/or the transition to straws and open cups

BARE® is BPA/PVC/Lead/Phthalate & Nitrosamines-FREE bottle made by Bittylab™, a NY-based and woman-owned enterprise. The BARE® air-free baby bottle is now available for purchase at www.Bittylab.com; it comes in two sizes (8oz and 4oz) – each one retails for $14.99.

About National Breastfeeding Month
August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. The breastfeeding campaign, funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, hopes to empower women to commit to breastfeeding by highlighting new research showing that babies who are exclusively breastfed for six months are less likely to develop ear infections, diarrhea and respiratory illnesses, and may be less likely to develop childhood obesity.
