Omnicom Press Author Reveals Massive Media Fraud in Litvinenko Case Expanded

Alarming new revelation in ongoing case of untrustworthy journalism.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Aug. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- "More Litvinenko Media Fraud" by William Dunkerley is a new report on a troubling and continuing saga. Earlier Dunkerley had discovered massive fraud in the news coverage of the Litvinenko case. A report on his findings was published by the American University in Moscow. It analyzed the coverage in the case of reputed former KGB spy Alexander Litvinenko's suspicious death in London in 2006. That case is still open today. Now Dunkerley has presented evidence that the massive media fraud has expanded.

Dunkerley's new report examines an article prepared by an American freelance journalist, and stories about that article that were disseminated by two news organizations. His report highlights areas of misinformation and serious distortion that were pervasive in all three.

According to Dunkerley, some of the questionable material originated with the freelance journalist in his article. The news organizations that reported on it added more inaccurate information themselves.

The tip-off to Dunkerley that poor journalism was at work here came when the journalist reported that Litvinenko "died leaving behind a deathbed statement he had dictated to a friend, accusing [Russian president Vladimir] Putin of orchestrating his murder."

"That so-called deathbed statement was a hoax," said Dunkerley. He pointed out that the hoax had been widely reported as such. The hoaxer has even confessed that he wrote the statement himself, he explained. Dunkerley asked, "if the journalist missed or misunderstood that one, what else did he miss or misunderstand?" Dunkerley observed that it's hard to know what to believe of the rest of the article, given the presence of this and other identifiably false information.
