There will be an introductory session on Saturday September 28, from 9 to 12. The session will include some live demonstrations of blacksmithing along with an introduction to the forge, anvil, hammers and other tools. Under the guidance of a professional blacksmith, students will have some hands-on activities and will experience the atmosphere of a working forge.
The session includes a mid-day lunch with Q & A time to talk with working metal artists about their careers and what it is like to work in a a metal arts studio. The Center for Metal Arts is located in the black dirt fam village of Florida NY, in the southern Hudson Valley. The studio is part of the working studio of Fine Architectural Metalsmiths, an award-winning architectural metal arts company that has been in existence since 1981. The studio is located in the 1890's Borden's Creamery Icehouse, The full teaching center was launched in 2003, and offers weekend workshops . The upstairs gallery of metal arts and museum of antique tools, with its self-guided tour, is an intriguing educational stop for visitors.
