MUMBAI, India - Aug. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- LIVE HEALTHY, LIVE LONG DR. M.K.SHAH GIVES TIPS TO PATIENTS ON “LIFE CARE AFTER ANGIOPLASTY”

Mumbai, Recently:  A Cardiovascular Public Health Awareness Program was organised by Mumbai’s leading Cardiologist, Dr.M.K.SHAH at EMPRESS COURT HOTEL, in IRLA, MUMBAI on Sunday 11TH AUGUST. It was coordinated by Shaina Fernandes, Mili Gangrade & Rajan Dawande from the Heart Insure team and abc from Vascular Concepts Ltd.

The Program started on Sunday morning which included free medical check-ups for patients and suggestions on “Life care after angioplasty”, “Diet for Heart Patients” “Role of yoga and exercises” for lifestyle modulation by the cardiologist and his team.

There were over 150 patients who were suffering from various heart related issues who had attended this program which was free of cost for the patients from Mumbai.  There were lots of questions which were asked by them on post operative care and Dr. Shah gave lots of tips and solutions to lead a happy and stress free life after a heart operation.

While addressing the seminar Dr. M.K. Shah said, “Indians around the world have the highest rate of heart diseases. Coronary Artery Disease/Heart Attack is the main cause of death all over the world. It is catching up with women in India also who have high rates of heart diseases.”

Heart attacks are mainly caused by a blockage that prevents blood from flowing to the heart. Earlier it was treated only by conducting an open heart bypass surgery.  Today several treatment options, such as ANGIOPLASTY, where medical devices like Stents (metallic tubular structure crimped on a balloon which gives support to the walls of the vessel), BALLOON ANGIOPLASTY, where a small balloon like device is threaded through the artery to open the blockage, are available.

In order to prevent the cardiac disease we need to change our lifestyle as well. This is also very important for all those who are already suffering from a heart disease. This includes a healthy diet, regular physical activity and avoiding tobacco and smoking. This is where the Heart Insure Program plays an important role.

Dr.___ is coordinating this special “Disease Management Program” along with the Heart Insure Team. The main aim of the Heart Insure Program is to curb/control the increasing rate of Coronary Artery Disease among Indians, and to save lives through a comprehensive patient education program. This includes incorporating education on prevention and control of heart disease, an ongoing follow up and to top it an insurance for 3 years for ProNOVA XR stent (Vascular Concepts Ltd.)
Shaina Fernandes, - Head, Heart Insure Team, said, HIP is responsible for doing a 3 year compliance monitoring of the patient and checking whether they are taking their medicines on time, maintaining a proper diet and going for regular follow ups with their doctors. This is done by making follow up calls to the patients on a regular basis. The patients are also given a Disease Management Kit. This kit is available in local Indian languages and contains information on heart disease, good eating habits, importance of physical exercise and suggestions for reducing stress.”

This unique health awareness programme “Heart Insure” also ensures that if there is a recurrence of the disease at the site of the treated vessel, the patient is financially helped by offering them a certain amount of reimbursement, for the repeat treatment. Heart Insure Program is a new revolution in health care which aims at encouraging the patients to have a healthy lifestyle, making them active partners with their healthcare providers.

There is a lot you can do to keep your heart healthy!!

Self help is the best help.
