Author Uses Indiegogo Crowdfunding To Raise Funds For Faith Based Children's Series

Lynda D. Brown, author and independent publisher uses alternative funding for her new children’s series, The Kingdom Kids.

ST. LOUIS - Sept. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- St. Louis, MO (WEB) September 17, 2013 –Author Lynda D. Brown is turning to the Internet to raise funds for her new children’s series, Kingdom Kids, a faith-based series for children ages 3-7. With funding as a major hurdle to publishing a children’s book, current economic conditions don’t make the job any easier. Publishers have to become more innovative in their fundraising strategies, and many have embraced crowd funding sites like Indiegogo.com and Kickstarter.com.

Most crowd funding sites have guidelines, and users have a set number of days to raise the funds. Brown set her fundraiser for 60-days and currently has 23 days left to raise $1500.00. When asked why she chose Indiegogo.com, Brown explained that having the ability to spread the word quickly online to a lot of people, and keep them updated on the status of the project appealed to her, along with Indiegogo’s flexible option that will allow her to keep all the funds she raised, even if the project doesn’t meet its goals. Another plus was the ability for investors to use PayPal.com to receive funds from around the world to support the project.

Brown’s series, The Kingdom Kids, is geared to kids of all racial backgrounds. As an employee at a local library in St. Louis MO, Brown was searching for a book to buy her five year old bi-racial grandson, and when she couldn’t find any, she decided to write a book for him.  When she showed one of the librarians a copy of the book, Damien’s New Bike, the librarian encouraged her to publish it, citing the lack of books that showed children of color, particularly young boys, as a main character. Brown also wanted the books to reflect the biblical principles that her family lives by. Following the librarians advice, Brown released Damien’s New Bike, book one of the Kingdom Kids Series on Amazon.com and other online retail outlets on August 31, 2013, and has sold dozens of copies to friends, co-workers and family members. Inspired by sales of book one, Brown decided to use Indiegogo.com to help pay her talented illustrator, Ms. Kiarra Lynn Smith, of St. Louis MO, for the second book in the series, Damien and the Bully. Future books will deal with divorce, homelessness and racism.
